Local Area Improvements
Inspection of our Local Area SEND services.
The Local Area (Local Authority, Health, Education) had an inspection of our SEND services in 2018. The roadmap shows how we have improved and the positive changes we have made.
A SEND revisit in May 2021 to the local area by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) checked whether we were making progress on 5 areas they found needed improvement in 2018.
Inspectors gathered the views of parents and carers through an online survey and were able to meet with some parents to hear of their and their child’s experiences.
It was really good to see that inspectors recognised the significant positive changes in our SEND local offer and that there is a shared ethos and vision for children with SEND in Leicester.
Read the final letter from Ofsted and CQC which explains their findings and gives the outcome of the SEND revisit.
The SEND revisit found that one area needs an increased pace of improvement and we have produced an Accelerated Progress Plan, approved by the Department for Education (DfE) which sets out how we will improve our joint commissioning for the health needs of young people aged 19+.
We have made really good progress in many of our improvement areas and there is still much to do. Our SEND Improvement Board, which meets on a monthly basis, continues to drive all the priorities for the Local Area to support children and young people with SEND to achieve the best possible outcomes.
