Protecting those who are clinically extremely vulnerable
The latest guidance to ensure clinically extremely vulnerable staff are kept safe.
Shielding extended
Guidance has been extended and those falling into the category of CEV are advised to shield until 31 March 2021. CEV individuals will receive a letter confirming this. A further letter will be sent in mid-March with further advice.
Guidance for people now identified as high risk
New research commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer has identified people who may be at increased risk of becoming seriously unwell from coronavirus. Those falling into this category will receive a letter which acts as a formal shielding notification and you are advised to follow shielding measures currently in place.
Guidance on protecting those who are clinically extremely vulnerable
Shielding has been reintroduced so staff who are clinically extremely vulnerable should not attend schools or other educational settings. The full guidance can be viewed here: Guidance on shielding and protecting people who are clinically extremely vulnerable from COVID-19 (GOV.UK)
This guidance is for everyone in England who has been identified as clinically extremely vulnerable. If you are in this group, you will previously have received a letter from the NHS or from your GP telling you this. You may have been advised to shield in the past.
This shielding guidance applies to clinically extremely vulnerable individuals only. Others living in a household with someone who is clinically extremely vulnerable are not advised to follow this guidance. They should instead follow the general advice and regulations set out in the national lockdown guidance that came into effect on 5 January 2021.
Employees in this group will continue to receive letters confirming the advice.
Individual risk assessments
Settings should ensure the workplace is COVID secure and that individual risk assessment must have been completed by the leadership team.
